Microsoft Teams: Managing Your Activity Feed

For me, nothing kills the post-holiday buzz more than an inbox full of emails. That sinking feeling get when I open Outlook to 1000s of emails gets me every time. So how do you deal with inbox fatigue? This blog will tell you just that with the Teams activity Feed.

While spending my first day back from annual leave sorting out my inbox, I then moved onto Teams which was just as bad. However, I’ve found a nice little workaround for the Teams Activity Feed that I wanted to share.

Use the Teams Activity Feed!

As you’re probably aware, the Teams Activity Feed captures all the information about @mentions, missed calls, replies and more that is relevant to you. It’s a good way on quickly checking up on what you’ve missed of note within your team.

But if like me, you find it a bit overwhelming to go through when you are out of the office for a few days, you might want to start thinking about managing your feed.

The easiest way to this is to filter it to the things you really care about. For example, if you’re waiting for some responses to a particular post, filter your activity feed to Replies. Or if you want to see what’s making news in your organisation or teams, filter onto Trending.

It can also be a good tool to check you’re keeping up with your network every day. A useful filter for me at the end of the day is to check back in on the Missed Calls to make sure I’ve caught up with anyone who tried to catch me during the day.

So how do you do it?

Simply go to the Activity button in Teams and you’ll see all of the activities that relate to you there. To filter on them, click on the funnel icon on the right side.

This will provide you with a drop down menu, from which you can select the type of message or activity you are looking for.

It’s quick, easy and far less stressful than seeing an infinite list of activities you’ve missed that you now need to review. Now sit back, have a cup of tea and filter your activity feed when you return from leave, and make sure that post-holiday buzz keeps going for a little bit longer!
