Microsoft Teams: Manage Your Schedule with Shifts!
Working 9-5, what a way to make a living… Are you working the typical business hours like Dolly? Or are you open all hours and rocking around the clock? Whatever your situation, there’s a good chance that knowing how to use Shifts in Teams may be able to help you manage your work schedule better.
What is Shifts?
Shifts is management tool that’s free to use in Teams. It gives you to ability to quickly and easily schedule your team’s rotas and shift patterns.
What can I do on Shifts?
As a manager, Shifts really helps you manage your team’s schedules with ease.
It is also a great place for you to share handover notes with the following shifts. In Day Notes you can communicate important information, shift handovers and reminders.
If you want an employee to focus on a particular task or training, you can add this to their shift information so they know what they’ll be working on that day. This could be useful if your staff work between different sites, so they will always know where they should be.
Time clock is an optional functionality which enables staff to clock in for their shift using their mobile phone. A time stamp and location is recorded, so you can see where your team members are when you need them.
What can your people do on Shifts?
As well as having a real-time view of their shift patterns wherever they are and whenever they need it, they can also have some control over when they work.
Requests enables staff to request time off or swap shifts. By being able to see who else is working, they can propose shift swaps to you or ask you to manage this on their behalf.
Why should I use it?
- Shifts is really simple and quick to set up and use
- It’s a live document, so you can get an accurate picture of shift patterns and who is scheduled to work
- Your team can have access to it, so they are in control of their work patterns and have visibility ahead of time
- Your team can also access it anytime of day or night, making it easier for them to plan their lives around work.
