Getting Started on Microsoft Teams: Live (Virtual) Events
Expecting a big crowd? Teams Live Events could be the answer… As part of our Getting Started on Microsoft Teams series, this blog is an introduction to Live Events, we’ll tell you what are Teams Live Events, when you should use Live Events and who attends Live Events, all in the course of 5 minutes!
Microsoft Teams is a great place to hold and participate in meetings of up to 250 people. But if your audience is bigger than that, you might need to consider holding a Live Event.
What is a Teams Live Event?
A Teams Live Event is a broadcast video and audio service that allows a host to present to up to 10,000 people at once.
Ideal for all-hands meetings, company town-halls or even events like AGMs where the presenter is doing the lion’s share of the talking.
You can share your screen, share video and audio content, and involve participation through moderated Q&As.
When should I use a Teams Live Event?
If you need to convey information to an audience who will be sitting listening and absorbing what you share, rather than participating in the conversation, then Live Events is the way to go.
Here at Changing Social, we use Live Events to kick off our Office 365 training programmes with large clients. This helps us to introduce the programme and give people an overview of what to expect.
As a Microsoft adoption and change management partner, we advise our clients to use Live Events for large-all company events.
And we also advocate for them using Live Events when they want to speak to groups or individuals outside their organisation.
We recently worked with Suffolk County Council who has started to use Live Events for Council Meetings so the public can watch and participate in the meeting, as they would be able to in the Council Chambers. This has meant the Suffolk citizens haven’t missed out on watching their democratically elected officials at work!
Who can attend a Live Event?
Literally anyone you want!
You can have private Live Events that are just for people within your organisation, or you can hold public Live Events for anyone. These are good if you want members of the public or people from other organisations to join in.
Now let’s get you started with Teams Live Events
Teams Live Events require a little bit of work in the background to get set up on your licence and platform. Then once you’re technically sorted, you just set up a meeting invite and schedule a Live Event.
