Welcome, dear Teams enthusiasts, to the November 2024 round-up of all things new in Microsoft Teams this November!
This month’s updates come with a toolkit of shiny new features, designed to help you zip through tasks, stay organised, and – dare we say it – have a bit more fun in your digital workspace.
Settle in, and let’s take a look at these updates, each geared to make your Teams experience as delightful as a Teams update ever can be.
Smoother Chat & Collaboration Features
New Teams and Channels View
First up, we’ve got a fresh makeover for the Teams and Channels view, and it’s quite the head-turner. You’ll find a tidy, centralised hub where you can browse, filter, and manage all your teams in one go.
Imagine it as your digital filing cabinet, only you don’t have to rummage through endless drawers – it’s all just a click away. Want to see “teams you own” or locate that old “archived team” without muttering under your breath? Sorted.
It’s streamlined, intuitive, and dare we say, a bit of a life-saver. And with a few clicks, you can create new teams, respond to invites, and even peek at engagement stats in the built-in analytics tab.
Chat Information Pane
Chats are the pulse of teamwork, but all too often, important details seem to drift into the digital ether. Fear not!
Teams now has an Information Pane that lets you check key details at a glance. Located just next to the participant list, this handy panel gives you a neat snapshot of participants, shared files, and pinned messages without having to leave the chat. Finally, an end to the endless scrolling to find “that one file” Jane sent last week. You can stay focused on the chat at hand, with everything you need right within reach.
Meetings & Events: Enhanced Powers for Organisers and Attendees
Intelligent Recap Notifications
Missed the meeting where everything important happened? Never mind – you’re covered.
Teams now serves up Intelligent Recap Notifications right in your Activity feed. With a single click, you’ll be whisked straight to a summarised meeting recap, complete with action points, key decisions, and those all-important “let’s follow up” moments. This saves you from combing through transcripts in search of that elusive task.
Interactive Q&A for Webinars and Town Halls
Gone are the days of endless chats clogged with a jumble of questions – November brings Interactive Q&A to webinars and town halls.
Attendees can upvote questions they think deserve the spotlight, allowing the crème de la crème to rise to the top.
Plus, organisers can archive old questions to maintain a tidy, focused discussion space. Whether you’re a presenter trying to prioritise questions or an attendee keen on getting your question noticed, this feature is bound to make Q&As a whole lot smoother and infinitely more engaging.
Voting, Filtering, Sorting, and Archiving in Teams Q&A
Welcome, Teams aficionados! If you’re looking to add a touch more interactivity and organisation to your digital events, look no further than the latest enhancements to Teams Q&A. These updates are here to help make your town halls, webinars, and training sessions smoother and more engaging.
Upvoting for Key Questions
With the new voting feature, every attendee can upvote pressing questions, helping the most relevant ones rise to the top of the Q&A feed. No more hunting for the best questions amidst the chatter – now, the crowd helps spotlight what matters most.
Sorting and Filtering Options
Both attendees and organisers can now sort questions by votes or activity, elevating the most engaging questions to prominence. Whether you’re an organiser managing the flow or an attendee looking for popular discussion points, these options bring a new level of clarity.
Archiving to Declutter
And for organisers, the archiving function is here to keep your Q&A tidy. Move older or less relevant questions into a separate feed, allowing current conversations to stay fresh and uncluttered.
Meeting Organisers Can Control Lobby Admissions for Added Security
To help keep your meetings secure, Teams now offers meeting organisers greater control over who can admit attendees from the lobby. On the Meeting Options page, organisers can choose between two settings: allowing only the organiser and co-organiser to manage admissions or extending this ability to organisers, co-organisers, and presenters.
This added control ensures that only the right people can bring attendees into the meeting, keeping your virtual space secure and distraction-free.
Supporting Frontline Workers: Quiet Time & Working Time Features
Frontline workers, the backbone of so many industries, can now enjoy a bit more peace of mind (and fewer after-hours notifications) thanks to Working Time and Quiet Time features.
These tools adjust notifications and access based on your clock-in status, meaning no more pesky pings when you’re off duty.
It’s a small but mighty change, helping frontline teams maintain that elusive work-life balance. Whether you’re in healthcare, retail, or any other sector with a front-facing role, Teams has your back.
Microsoft Mesh: A Virtual Twist to Collaboration
Mesh Pavilion Developer Environment
Imagine gathering your team in a virtual pavilion, complete with bean bags, fire pits, and a waterfall.
Sounds like something out of a futuristic novel, doesn’t it?
But thanks to Microsoft Mesh’s latest Pavilion Developer Environment, and in this Microsoft Teams November update developers now have access to an immersive, interactive space perfect for virtual events and training simulations. It’s like the digital version of a team retreat, offering a playful yet productive atmosphere that could just be the future of collaboration. Let’s face it – who wouldn’t enjoy a brainstorming session by a virtual waterfall?
Expanded Avatar Catalogue
New avatars are now available with 51 new professional wardrobe items available and furthermore 15 new hair styles.
If you haven’t made yourself an avatar, this is the time to do it! Messy hair day – have no worries use your avatar…
These updates allow you to create avatars that reflect your unique identity and preference. The expanded options are available through the catalogue to all Teams customers with avatars enabled.
November’s Updates: One Step Closer to the Ideal Digital Workspace
As we sign off, it’s clear Microsoft Teams is on a mission to turn the ordinary workspace into something extraordinary. November’s features – spanning customer service, call management, meeting accessibility, and even virtual collaboration – are all about creating a world where connecting, collaborating, and staying productive feel more like a breeze than a chore.
Stay tuned for the next batch of updates, and remember: with Teams, the future of work is only ever one feature away. Until next month!
