How SWIF Helped Power Our next Chapter

At Changing Social, we’ve always been driven by a big mission: helping people embrace digital change and thrive in the modern workplace. And as technology evolves, so do we.

With a little help from the South West Investment Fund (SWIF), we’ve taken the leap from digital adoption experts to international AI transformation partners, growing our business, strengthening our team, and bringing the power of Microsoft’s AI tools to organisations across the UK and beyond.

From Strong Foundations to Bold Moves

We launched Changing Social in 2018 with a clear focus: supporting businesses to maximise the benefits of Microsoft 365. From Teams and SharePoint to Yammer and beyond, we delivered over 500 projects, empowering people to work better together and navigate change with confidence.

But the world of work doesn’t stand still, and neither do we.

With Microsoft’s launch of Copilot and a growing appetite for AI in the workplace, we knew it was time to level up. Our vision: become the go-to partner for people-first AI transformation, helping organisations use AI tools in practical, ethical, and empowering ways.

Investing in Growth with SWIF

In 2024, we secured investment through SWIF, delivered by Maven Capital Partners on behalf of the British Business Bank. And it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“This wasn’t just about funding, it gave us the confidence to act on our vision,” says Steve Crompton, our Managing Director. “It let us make bold decisions when many businesses were pulling back.”

Thanks to the SWIF investment, we’ve been able to:

  • Open a brand-new HQ in Bristol to support hybrid ways of working
  • Grow our Sales and Delivery teams to meet national and global demand
  • Launch our AI Centre of Excellence, aligned to Microsoft’s roadmap with Copilot, Fabric, and Purview
  • Refresh our brand and sharpen our mission to reflect our AI-first strategy
  • Invest in internal systems, governance, and onboarding to scale sustainably

Resilience When It Mattered Most

Like many businesses, we’ve faced our share of challenges, especially during the economic shifts in late 2024. But instead of hitting pause, we pressed go.

The SWIF funding gave us breathing room, but more importantly, it gave us momentum. We invested in the right areas: people, process, and proposition. And that’s made all the difference.

We’ve since been recognised in regional business awards, won exciting new enterprise clients, and extended our reach into North America. Our transformation has been about growth and improving ourselves.

A True Partnership Approach

Working with Maven wasn’t just transactional, it’s collaborative.

“They understood our goals, gave us the space to move quickly, and offered insight every step of the way,” says Steve. “They’ve been a real partner on the journey.”

That spirit of partnership reflects how we work with our clients. It’s never just about tech; it’s about people, potential, and progress.

What’s Next?

As of mid-2025, our AI transformation work makes up the majority of our pipeline. We’re expanding into new sectors, deepening our Microsoft partnerships, and growing our global footprint.

“SWIF allowed us to grow with intent,” reflects Steve. “We’re not just a bigger company now, we’re a better one.”
