7 Microsoft evergreen updates for October 2025
By | Published On: 16 October 2025 |

October brought with it a wave of powerful updates across Microsoft 365, from smarter Teams experiences to next-generation AI tools in Copilot and Power Platform. These updates are designed to make collaboration smoother, automation simpler, and creativity even more effortless.

Microsoft Teams: A Modern Town Hall Experience

The shift from Teams Live Events to Teams Town Hall continues, and this month’s updates bring full feature parity with added polish. Organisers now enjoy enhanced presenter controls, attendee reactions, and a more interactive experience. If your organisation hasn’t yet made the transition, it’s time to plan the move, as Live Events are being phased out.

For hybrid setups, Teams Rooms Pro now supports simultaneous role-specific views, giving presenters more control while keeping in-room attendees focused on what matters. And for anyone who’s ever struggled to trace a forwarded message, there’s good news. Forwarded messages now include a clickable link to the original chat (permissions permitting), improving context and traceability.

Collaborative Notes also arrive in group chats, powered by Microsoft Loop components, so teams can co-create agendas and capture action items in real time, right where the conversation happens.

Finally, security and accessibility get a boost. Malicious URL protection now warns users about risky links in chats and channels, and live captions are more private and reliable, ensuring accessibility for every participant.

Core M365 Apps: Seamless and Smart

In Microsoft Word, eSignature requests now support free text fields, allowing signers to add details like job titles and phone numbers, a simple but useful upgrade for document workflows.

Meanwhile, the new Outlook for Windows continues to roll out, automatically migrating accounts and settings from the classic version. No manual setup required. Shared mailboxes, delegates, and preferences come with you for a truly seamless transition.

Loop, Planner, and Whiteboard

Whiteboard takes a significant step forward as it begins its migration from Azure to OneDrive, improving access, compliance, and security. Users will now find their boards safely stored in OneDrive, making sharing, backup, and governance much simpler.

M365 Copilot Chat (Unlicensed)

Even without a full Copilot licence, there’s a lot to look forward to. The Microsoft 365 Copilot app will now automatically install on Windows devices with Microsoft 365 Apps (unless your admin says otherwise). There’s also a new Update available button for smoother, non-blocking updates, so there’s no need to restart your workflow.

Copilot itself is getting smarter. Updates to memory and personalisation mean it can tailor responses based on your previous chats, while a redesigned settings page gives users more control over what Copilot remembers.

Plus, the new Library experience offers one place to manage all your AI-generated content, from Copilot Pages to images, keeping your workspace clutter-free.

And for creatives, Copilot Chat now lets you upload multiple reference images in a single conversation to inspire richer, more accurate image generation. Combine this with the new Rewrite feature in Microsoft Edge for Business, and you’ve got a powerful writing and visual toolkit built right into your workflow.

Copilot for M365 (Licensed Users)

Those with a Copilot licence gain access to the new AI workflows in Teams, which automate common processes using intelligent templates. The Facilitator Agent is also now generally available, acting as your AI meeting assistant, helping you stay focused by surfacing agendas, tracking progress, and capturing key insights in real time.

In Word, you can now view dynamic document statistics via the new Document Snapshot, making collaboration more transparent. Copilot Chat is expanding too, coming soon to Teams chats, channels, and meetings, where it’ll deliver insights side-by-side with your conversations.

Rounding off this wave of innovation, the Skills Agent in Microsoft Frontier helps organisations identify and connect people based on real-time skill data. And for file lovers, Copilot now works directly in File Explorer and OneDrive, allowing you to summarise, compare, and query documents without opening them.

Viva Suite: Listen on the Go

Viva Connections mobile introduces a new AI audio briefing, a clever way to catch up on top organisational news while on the move. It’s like having a personal assistant who reads your updates aloud, saving time and keeping you connected to what matters most.

Power Platform: Innovation in Action

The Power Platform continues to evolve with serious AI muscle. Copilot Studio and Copilot Researcher now support Anthropic models (Claude Opus 4.1 and Sonnet 4), giving organisations more flexibility when choosing the right model for their needs.

A major highlight this month is Copilot’s AI video creator, capable of transforming PowerPoint slides, Word documents, or text prompts into professional-quality videos, complete with transcript-based editing, custom media, and brand kit integration.

In Power Automate, you can now quantify the time and money saved by your automations, an invaluable metric for demonstrating ROI. Power Apps makers gain offline profiles for Canvas apps, smart paste for faster data entry, and the ability to manage app source code directly in YAML, without using the command line.

Other standout additions include:

  • AI-generated process maps to visualise business workflows
  • Natural language chart creation via Copilot for instant data visualisation
  • Enhanced connectors with the Power Platform SDK (software development kit)
  • Multistage approvals in Copilot Studio for advanced workflow design
  • Support for up to 1,000 SharePoint or OneDrive files per agent, streamlining knowledge access

Wrapping Up

From Teams Town Hall to Copilot’s new creative and analytic capabilities, Microsoft continues to deliver meaningful improvements across the ecosystem. These updates reinforce a clear vision: empowering people with intelligent tools that simplify work, amplify productivity, and spark innovation.

Stay tuned for next month’s roundup as we continue tracking the ever-evolving world of Microsoft 365.
