As of 7 August 2025, Copilot GPT-5 is now part of Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio.
This isn’t a minor update; it’s a complete overhaul in how AI supports your daily work.
From sharper reasoning to faster responses, it’s about to change how you work, think, and possibly how many browser tabs you keep open at once (hopefully).
What exactly is new in Copilot GPT-5?
Think of this as the next generation of your Microsoft Copilot experience.
GPT-5, developed by OpenAI, has been integrated into Microsoft 365 to bring more accuracy, speed, and contextual understanding than ever before.
Here’s the real magic: adaptive model selection.
Copilot now uses a “real-time router” that chooses the best engine for your task. Quick, factual queries? You get high-throughput speed.
Complex planning, multi-step analysis, or sensitive communications? Copilot switches to a deeper reasoning model designed to untangle the complicated and keep the details straight.
Gone are the days of coaxing decent answers with carefully reworded prompts and endless copy-paste between apps. Copilot GPT-5 just, understands.
Smarter work with ease
Yes, it’s faster, but it’s also more considerate. Copilot GPT-5 doesn’t churn out generic filler. It draws from your Microsoft 365 context, documents, emails, meetings, and chats to produce relevant responses.
This means, for example: Summarise your last three project meetings so you can skip the 90-minute replay.
Rewriting that tricky email to strike the right tone for your audience.
Translating a technical report into something your non-technical stakeholders can understand.
It’s like having a colleague who reads the whole brief before offering advice and doesn’t complain about tight deadlines or awkward file formats.
Why this matters for the workplace
This shift takes us beyond the “digital assistant” and closer to a truly intelligent workplace, a place where technology supports better thinking, not just faster doing.
In practical terms, Copilot GPT-5 means less time spent gathering, formatting, or re-explaining information, and more time for the things that actually drive value, innovation, collaboration, and decision-making.
For those building in Copilot Studio, GPT-5 now powers your custom business agents. These can pull from internal datasets, follow multi-step processes, and respond to complex, domain-specific queries with the nuance you’ve been hoping for. It’s not just automation, it’s intelligent delegation.
And because all of this runs inside your Microsoft 365 environment, enterprise-grade security and compliance remain exactly where they should be, in place, by default.
How to try Copilot GPT-5
If you have a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence, you’ll start to see an option to “Try GPT-5” within your apps. Enabling it means your Copilot responses will run on the new model. This is a staged rollout, so if it’s not there yet, it’s on its way.
In Copilot Studio, GPT-5 is now the default for new builds. This gives organisations immediate access to the more advanced reasoning, improved accuracy, and richer conversational abilities without any extra configuration.
Final thoughts
Copilot GPT-5 is a change in how we approach work itself. It’s faster when you need speed, more analytical when you need depth, and more useful in the moments that matter.
At Changing Social, we see this as a major opportunity for organisations to reduce the friction in everyday work. Less time searching for information, more time using it. Less admin, more impact. And, ideally, fewer meetings that could have been emails.
If you’d like to explore how Copilot GPT-5 could support your team, streamline your processes, or unlock entirely new ways of working, we’d be happy to walk you through what’s possible.
